Dhanteras Rules: Every year the festival of Dhanteras is celebrated on the Trayodashi date of Kartik Krishna Paksha. This year Dhanteras will be celebrated tomorrow i.e. on 10th November. The Panch-Parva of Diwali begins from this day. Dhanteras is the first day of this 5-day festival. Auspicious time for shopping on Dhanteras
According to mythological beliefs, on the day of Dhanteras, Lord Dhanvantari, the father of Ayurveda, appeared with the nectar pot from the churning of the ocean. Since then, the tradition of buying utensils is followed every year on Dhanteras. It is said that whoever makes auspicious purchase of gold, silver, utensils, land and property on the day of Dhanteras, his wealth increases thirteen times. This time, the auspicious time for shopping on Dhanteras will be from noon to evening. Especially the time from 12:56 pm to 2:06 pm and then from 4:16 pm to 5:26 pm will be best for shopping.
How many brooms should one buy on Dhanteras?
The tradition of buying brooms on Dhanteras is centuries old. It is believed that buying a broom on this day brings blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. On this day, a new broom should be bought and worshiped. While buying a broom, pay special attention to its number. On this day, brooms should always be bought in odd numbers i.e. 1, 3, 5 and 7. Buying brooms in this manner is considered auspicious. The broom is considered to be the form of Goddess Lakshmi.
After worshiping Lakshmi on the night of Diwali, this broom should also be worshiped with kumkum and rice. By doing this one gets the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and all the negative energy gets eliminated from the house.
